Thrifty Thursday: Nail Polish Review

Well hello there! Today I thought I’d talk about the different nail polish brands, so I’m just going to get started by comparing two great drugstore nail polishes:

SALLY HANSEN VS. REVLON:

Sally Hansen has many branches such as Insta-Dri and Xtreme Wear.

The Pros:
-You only need one or two coats top to get the best look.
- It’s one of the cheapest yet pretty good quality nail polishes.

The Cons:
-It comes on some what thick at times and can look goopy.

My Favorite Color?
Cinna-snap, a wonderful color for fall!

Revlon is not only known for it’s make-up, but nail polish as well!

The Pros:
-The brush is a great size for application.
-There are so many colors to choose from!

The Cons:
-It’s not expensive, but it does cost more than Sally Hansen.

My Favorite Color?
Make Mine Mango, a bright shade for summer!

A bottle of Sally Hansen will cost you $3.74+ at CVS and Revlon will cost you $4.34+
You can get both of these great nail polishes at virtually any drug store.

Wednesday: What to Wear When You WORKOUT

Hello my duckies! Sorry about missing Monday, but I have a bit a surprise brewing for all of you! But, for today, you shall know a little bit more about my life along with this post.

As the weather gets hotter and hotter, more clothes keep coming off. Not to the point where we all get naked, but yah know. So this inspires me to workout a little harder, maybe it inspires others too!

So you might be thinking, I don't need to look good when I'm working out, I'm sweating after all! Well let me tell you, there is nothing better than a little shine to make you look like a star. On to the fashion:

-A Sports Bra
I'm not even kidding, some runners forget this key staple, which isn't very fun to watch. I don't judge though, it's not my life.
-A Breathable Top
I don't usually trust in only one brand, but it seems that Under Armour has the best tops that really help the skin breath and don't feel rough on you either.
-Loose Running Shorts
This might just be a preference, but if my shorts are tighter, they tend to rise up a bit. I like a little air between the fabric and my legs.
-Socks and Cushioned Shoes
If your shoes don't have enough cushion and you're jumping around, that'll lead to some serious knee problems (and an uncomfortable run!). Try to get some socks that wick the moisture off your feet too!
-Headband
Those silly flyaways aren't fun to run with, so make sure you keep them out of your face. I also prefer running with a ponytail. A bun works too, but mine tend to fall out mid-workout.

Have fun matching your wardrobe, or if you're working out in the comfort of your home, wear what you want! But please wear clothes.

Tuesday Tips: Dealing with Siblings

I have been observing that a lot of my friends have sibling troubles. I’m sure they're not the only ones. I mean I’ve seen plenty of T.V. shows and movies on this topic! I have a little sister of my own and we are pretty close in age. Like all siblings, we get into arguments. So here are some tips on how to handle different situations!

Teenager with a teenager sibling: This is a common scenario. You’re a junior, they’re a freshman (like me and my sis) and you have arguments about a variety of things. That includes them trying to borrow your clothes, not giving you your space, or even the older sibling trying to tell you what to do every waking moment. I think the best way to try and deal with a fellow teenager is just tell them. I know this won’t work in all cases but both of you are old enough to try and come to an understanding. Also, try and spend time together. Go to the mall or a movie!

Teenager with a kid sibling: You’re a teenager. You’re older, wiser, and more mature (or so you think). However a lot of the times, having a kid sibling can bring out the kid in us and you don’t realize how childish you’re acting. I feel like kid siblings are the hardest to deal with because kids can be at that rebellious and mischievous stage while also trying to be grown up like you. Whether you know it or not, you’re kind of their role model. I suggest that you try to include them in some of your life, and they might be satisfied. Also, try to sit them down and set boundaries. After, feel free to have some alone time or friend time like all good teenagers need. Remember, your siblings tend to look up to you, so be something they’re proud of.

Teenager with an infant sibling: You are sixteen, going on seventeen, but surprise! Your parents had a baby! This can be a shockwave to the way you live. Now you have to deal with dirty diapers, crying noises, baby food and toys everywhere, but also a new human being. Not going to lie, it can get overwhelming. Especially since all of your parents free time will be devoted to this baby. My advice is to try to help with the new baby. It will help free up your parents time so they have more time for you. While you can help, you’re not the parent, so still make sure to take time for yourself to hang with your friends and other stuff you need to do.

That is all for this Tuesday!

Friday DIY: Workout Tee

Okay, so technically I cheated. I got this awesome tutorial from a gal who has the BEST workouts ever, and when I saw this, I knew I had to put I on Mitsege! I haven't tried I yet, and since I'm not the best with my hands, my first try might be a fail, but I'm sure you readers will do just fine with this. Enjoy!

Tuesday Tips for a Safe Summer

It’s summer! Well at least for the northern hemisphere, but eventually it will be summer where ever you are. Here are some important safety tips that you should keep in mind for this sunny season.

Drink Water: I am guilty for not drinking enough water, but hey, I’m trying to change. Dehydration is more likely to happen if you are out in the sun and not filling yourself with fluids. If you don’t like the taste of water, try using Crystal Light or those Mio things (though I’ve never tried them but I hear they are tasty).

Eat an Apple: If you are having an uneventful summer, sometimes you start to eat random snack foods in your house without realizing it. If you find yourself in that situation, grab an apple! Not only is an apple very filling, but it is low-cal and 84% water, which will keep you hydrated.

Wear Sunscreen/Sunblock: It is SO important to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. I suggest you get some type of lotion that suits your needs in order to avoid sunburn. If you would like to find out if you are a Sunblock or Sunscreen person, read my previous blog post! http://mitsege.blogspot.com/2012/06/thrifty-thursday.html

Wear Sunglasses: Like you should protect your skin, you should protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. As well as protection, it is a key safety feature. Sun creates glare that can blur vision when driving. Also, because a less forceful light is entering your eyes, sunglasses improve vision and reduce eyestrain/headache.

Those are my summer tips. Stay safe everyone!

Musical Monday: DUBSTEP

Ok so first, let's get the elephant out of the room (that's the phrase right?). I apologize greatly for the little hiatus that Mitsege went on, but both of us were pretty busy. Next time, we'll try to give the blog a heads up when we go M.I.A.

Now onto the topic! So, I was in the car with my sister when this magical song came on. It was stuck in my head but when I got in the house to look it up, I only had a few lyrics in my head. Luckily, Google knows everything, so I searched those few words and the first song that came up was "Spectrum" by Zedd. So this guy's a German DJ, cool.

Back to dubstep, I was introduced to this when the club hit "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" came into light by the artist Skrillex (who BTW is dating Ellie Goulding). After that I didn't really pay much attention to it, but apparently there are some die-hard dubstep fans. Kudos to you guys for sticking by such a genre.

Well, I'm totally open to new types of music, so if you guys have any dubstep songs I should take a listen to, PLEASE comment down below! Bye!

Thrifty Thursday / DIY Friday: Tie-Dye

Tie-Dye

During the summer, it’s not always necessary to wear your designer shirts with multiple layers. Why it may be fashionable, it can also be toasty to wear. Tie-dyed shirts display fun colors that reflect summer as well as being a low-maintenance and cool summer clothing piece.

Last month, my friend invited me to tie-dye t-shirts with her and her sister. I had never tie-dyed shirts and wasn’t expecting much out of this, but it was a lot of fun! It was interesting tying your shirts in different knots and dying the different sections. The best part was definitely seeing the results, so here are some that I did!

Swirl Technique

Bullseye Technique

You can buy tie-dye kits at Michaels and other craft stores. So go buy a kit, invite some friends and have a blast designing your own summer t-shirts!
